Wainhomes put on an exhibition on on 10th & 11th July 2009 to show the public how they intended to build 1500 homes, a school, a care village,
and employment facilities on the open green fields to the north of St Austell.
S.O.U.L. was formed to oppose these plans. We are non political, and believe that housing should be planned on the basis of NEED NOT GREED
A core group of people has been set up to draw up a strategy to mount effective opposition to Wainhomes.
At the exhibition, Wainhomes representatives were asked why they proposed building on productive farmland when the proposed Eco Town was to
utilise brownfield sites. The answer given to many people was "That the Eco Town would never be given the go-ahead"
The Eco Town was given the go-ahead by the government 5 days later.
We feel that Wainhomes have been less than frank about their
proposals, which are driven more by greed than local need.
Wainhomes justification for the development is based on the Governments Regional Spatial Strategy, which demands that 68000 homes are built in
Cornwall over the years to 2026. The strategy is wrong, and has been formally abandoned by the passage of the Localism Act.
